International Day of People with Disabilities Celebration in Quang Nam (December 1, 2023)

On December 1, 2023, in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province, the Research Centre for Inclusive Development (RCI), the coordinating unit of the Alliance of All for Inclusion (AAI), collaborated with the Association of People with Disabilities of Quang Nam Province and the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin of Quang Nam Province to organise an event to commemorate the International Day of People with Disabilities. The activity is part of the Inclusion 1 Project, coordinated by the Ministry of National Defence and the Vietnam Development Agency and funded by USAID. Attending the meeting were representatives from provincial, district, and local agencies from the project commune with people with disabilities living in Dien Ban Town and Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province; Ms. Doan Thi Hoai Nhi, Deputy Director of the Department of Labour – Invalids – Social Affairs; and Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Director of RCI.

The International Day of People with Disabilities is observed on December 3 of each year by the United Nations with the aim of promoting support for the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities, recognising the accomplishments and contributions of individuals with disabilities, and increasing public awareness of disability issues.

In addition to the numerous events organised nationwide and internationally on this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, people with disabilities in the Tam Ky area directly contributed to and organised the celebration of this day. Representatives from organisations that support the disability community as well as individuals with disabilities themselves share true tales of hardship, willpower, ambitions for improvement, and contributions to local socioeconomic activity.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Vinh, a local person with disabilities, stated, “My disability does not prevent me from integrating into the community… It is important for all disabled individuals to work together to create a happy society.”
