Vietnam Association for Education for All (VAEFA), along with its member organizations, has been making efforts to advocate for the past years to achieve the goal of sustainable development in education (SDG-4). In 2019, VAEFA organized a consultation to develop a focus report on SDG-4 goal implementation as one of the activities within the framework of regional initiatives of The Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE) to bring advocacy messages for SDG-4 goals to the United Nations High Level Political Forum (HLPF), which took place in July 2019 in New York, United States.
With the purpose of continuing to review and concretize some of the recommendations mentioned in this report, VAEFA organizes a meeting to share focus reports on SDG-4 implementation in Vietnam and consult on Adult Education on The morning of January 10, 2020.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Continuing Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training), Adult Education Research Department (Vietnam Academy of Educational Sciences), Universities and Colleges of Education, Association Vietnam Women’s Union, Hanoi Employment Service Center, United Nations (UNESCO, UNICEF), international organizations (GIZ) and a number of VAEFA members including: Hanoi Disability Association, Research Center for Inclusion (RCI), Center for Development Studies of Ethnic Minority Education and Culture, CENEV, IDEA, REACH, CODES, CEPEW, HAD …
At the meeting, participants also heard the research report “The transition from childhood to adulthood of young people with disabilities in Vietnam” by the Research Center for Inclusion (RCI) perform. This report identifies barriers to inclusive education, which is emphasized in the SDG-4 focal point newspaper.
Concerning adult education, an area of special interest for VAEFA, the consultation meeting gathered a number of quality comments to finalize the recommendations that would be made from the two studies being conducted, that is:
1) Impact assessment of joint circular 39/2015-TTLT merging 3 Centers at district level into Center for Vocational Education – Continuing Education
2) Review policies and financial plans to develop skills for disadvantaged women to increase access to employment
The objective of these two studies is to make recommendations to improve the operation of the Center for Vocational Education – Continuing Education and to enhance skills training for disadvantaged women, promoting the building of a learning society. and lifelong learning in Vietnam. Ms. Bui Thanh Xuan, Head of Adult Education Research Department, Vietnam Academy of Educational Sciences expressed: “ Looking forward to cooperating with VAEFA to promote continuing education, an important field that has not received proper attention. level ”.
With experience in participating in the consultation processes for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in education, VAEFA hopes that the findings and recommendations from these studies can contribute to the development of the Education Strategy 2021-2030.
