Introduction to the Photovoice Contest – Project Inclusion 1 (2024)

 

I. About the Contest

As part of the project titled “Supporting Quality of Life Improvements for People with Disabilities in Agent Orange-Dioxin-Affected Provinces” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), RCI and the AAI Consortium are hosting a Photovoice (Using Images to Tell Stories) contest in three project provinces: Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Thua Thien Hue.

1. Purpose and Significance

– This contest uses photography to convey positive messages about people with disabilities.

– It provides a safe and inclusive space for people with disabilities to connect and contribute positively to society.

– The contest aims to raise awareness about the importance of rehabilitation for the health and happiness of people with disabilities.

– It seeks to promote positive public attitudes toward people with disabilities and their integration into society.

2. Themes

– Living well and being useful as a person with disabilities

– Supporting and sharing with people with disabilities

3. Key Dates

– September 15 – October 30, 2024: Photovoice training for local officials, healthcare staff, rehabilitation technicians, and members of associations, groups, and clubs for people with disabilities.

– October 30 – December 30, 2024: Photovoice implementation in the project provinces.

– February 10 – March 30, 2025: Photovoice storytelling finals in three provinces (photo exhibition).

– Winning entries will be announced on the RCI fanpage and published in a photo book.

4. Awards

– 1st Prize: 1,500,000 VND

– 2nd Prize (2): 1,000,000 VND each

– 3rd Prize (3): 500,000 VND each

– Consolation Prizes (4): 200,000 VND each

II. Contest Rules

1. Who Can Participate

No matter who you are, as long as you live in Quang Nam, Quang Tri, or Thua Thien Hue and have photos of persons with disabilities receiving services from the Inclusion Project 1, phase 2024-2025, implemented by the AAI Consortium (especially in rehabilitation services), you are welcome to participate!

Preference will be given to photos taken by persons with disabilities themselves or their caregivers.

2. Contest Criteria

– Relevance: Photos must align with one of the two given themes (*).

– Appropriateness: Photos must adhere to legal and ethical standards and be free of inappropriate content.

– Photo quality: High-quality images (>3MB), clear, sharp, and without third-party app edits.

– Content: Each photo should include a clear caption highlighting the theme, conveying a positive and meaningful message.

– Message spread: Participants are encouraged to share their stories directly on the day of the contest’s final event (**).

* Photos taken by people with disabilities receive extra points;

** This criterion holds the highest weight in the scoring structure.

III. Contest Instructions

1. Step 1: Take a photo about people with disabilities based on one of the contest themes.

2. Step 2: Convey the image’s content:

– Send a positive message through the story of the person with disabilities.

– Highlight the role and importance of rehabilitation for the health and happiness of people with disabilities.

– Showcase the independence and involvement of people with disabilities, as well as the support of family and society.

In your submission, please include:

– Support information: Full name, address, and contact number of the supporting technician/local official.

– Photo author details: Full name, address, contact number, relationship with the person with disabilities (if the author is a relative).

– Description of the subject/event/object, location, and time of the photo.

– Reason for taking the photo.

– Short message or wish from the author (1 or 2 sentences).

– Optional title for the photo.
