“AN ANCHOR OF PEACE”: THE JOURNEY TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND SOCIAL INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Improving the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities

The project “Improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in provinces sprayed with Agent Orange” was implemented in Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang (Inclusion Project 1). The project was funded by the U.S. Government and managed by the National Action Centre for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET) under the Ministry of National Defence, through the Center for Creative Initiatives in Health and Population (CCIHP).

The project focused on three key objectives: improving rehabilitation services; strengthening community-based care services; and improving public awareness and attitudes toward persons with disabilities and their social inclusion.

“An Anchor of Peace” – Stories of Disability Inclusion

“An Anchor of Peace” is a Photovoice book produced by the Alliance of All for Inclusion (AAI), with the Research Center for Inclusion (RCI) as the lead organization.

The photographs were taken by project staff and service providers while implementing project activities in local communities across Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang.

Each photograph captures a different aspect of the journey toward disability inclusion, from rehabilitation and home-based care to livelihood support, community connection, and communication activities. Together, these images reflect not only the project’s work but also the resilience, confidence, and aspirations of persons with disabilities to participate fully in their communities.

Spreading the Spirit of Equality and Inclusion

Through “An Anchor of Peace,” RCI and AAI aim to share authentic stories of accompanying persons with disabilities and promote greater understanding, equality, and inclusion within communities.

The book is also a tribute to persons with disabilities, their families, project staff, service providers, and communities whose collective efforts have contributed to positive changes in the journey toward improving the quality of life and social inclusion of persons with disabilities in Central Viet Nam.
